Assignment 2: Pen and Ink

Description

Create an image with black lines drawn with the brush tool. Use hatching techniques to create light and dark tones to create a three-dimensional shaded image.

Keep in mind that this is part 1 of a 2 part project. You will take this completed project and colorize it for Assignment 3.

Refer to Class 4 for examples of Cross-Hatching.

Specifications

Rules

• New in 2020: Your brush tip can't be larger than 5 pixels in size. The majority of the lines should be 3-4 pixels in size.
• New i2 2020: Draw with black ink, turn off pressure sensitivity for Opacity. It should look like pen and ink, not graphite.
• Recommended brushes:

• Hard Round, 2-5 pixels size, Pressure set on in Control Panel

• Round Point Stiff, 1-5 pixels size. Keep in mind that this brush reacts to the angle of the pen and requires an Intuos or Cintiq tablet.
• Download MART325_Pen_Ink_brushes.abr.zip, the above brushes

Format

• Photoshop .psd file
• 8 inches x 10 inches (300ppi)
• Portrait or Landscape, your choice
• Name your file lastnamefirstinitial_assignment2.psd, so for me it would be khazarj_assignment2.psd

Timeline

Start: Class 04, February 10th
Due: Class 07, March 3rd (3 weeks)
