Pied-reliquaire de saint Adalhard
Italie, XIVe siécle
Cuivre gravé, ciselé et doré
Fonds Du Sommerard
Cl. 1400

Which can be roughly translated as:

Foot-reliquary of St Adalhard
Italy, 14th century
Engraved carved and gilded copper
Funded by Sommerard
Cluny catalog number 1400

Reliquaires, when they were of the monstrance (display) kind, were often shaped in the image of what they contained, in this case, parts of the foot from the body of Saint Adalhard. Saint Adalhard was born in 753 and died in 827. He was an abbot, and a cousin and adivsor to Charlemagne. Sorry to say, not a very interesting saint.

More information on reliquaries can be found at Wikipedia and at the Metropolitan Museum of Art site.
