Do you want to be able to engage players through games?

In this class everyone (no programming experience necessary) learns a game making tool, works in teams of two to complete a game during the quarter, explores computer game design and history, and learns about how games are used to express ideas, evoke emotions, tell stories, and more.

We believe games are the emerging artform of our century. Come learn why and learn how.

This course is focused on understanding and making computer games as an art form (rather than as an engineering challenge). One of the best games last year was made by two students from the Arts, who engaged and disrupted the aesthetics of parallel two player gaming. I'm hoping this year we will have many more people working and thinking from an Arts perspective in the course discussions and in creating course projects.

Unfortunately, while enrollment is currently healthy, the students are mostly from disciplines like computer science and literature -- there is very little Arts enrollment.They would really like to see more UCSC artists able to use game making as one of their forms of expression.
